Just what is the
Gospel of Jesus Christ?
The word
Gospel means Good News. In essence, it is information. The Biblical definition
is given in
1 Corinthians 15:1-4. "Moreover, brethren,
I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also you
have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved if ye keep
in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For
I delivered unto you f first of all that which I also received, how that
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried,
and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:"
Why is it called
Good News?
Because everyone
of us has sinned and have therefore excluded ourselves from being allowed
into the presence of God. We are already guilty and under judgment. Because
of His amazing grace and love, Jesus took our judgment (He alone being
sinless) and declares us righteous if we will but ask for it. (Bad part)
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23 "For
the wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23 "He that believeth on Him is not
condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already" John 3:18 "The
soul that sinneth, it shall die" Ezekiel 18:20 "And death and hell were
cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Revelation 20:14
(Good part) "But God commendeth His love toward us in that while we were
yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 "For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should
not perish, but have everlasting life . For God sent not His Son into the
world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved."
John 3:16,17
Aren't other religions
just as good as long as people are sincere?
Although sincerity
is necessary, a person can be sincere and be mistaken. With God and salvation,
it is not a question of sincerity or preference, it is a question of truth
or error. "I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside
me" Isaiah 45:5 "For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God
Himself that formed the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created
it not in vain, He f ormed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there
is none else." Isaiah 45:18 "Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them
take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath
told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside
me; a just God and a savior, there is none beside me." Isaiah 45:21 "Look
unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God and there
is none else." Isaiah 45:22 "Neither is there salvation in any other, for
there is no other name (Jesus Christ) under heaven given among men, whereby
we must be saved." Acts 4:12 It sounds too easy. Certainly, I must have
to do something to earn salvation. What is it? "Not by works of righteousness
which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, .." Titus 3:5
"But that no man is justif ied by the low in the sight of God, it is evident:
f or, The just shall live by faith." We can do nothing to earn salvation
because we are all sinners. God solved the problem by giving salvation
free of charge to all who want it. The obvious requirement is recognizing
our need in order to ask for the gift that He paid f or with His own blood.
Salvation by works won't work Jesus did it all. Jesus paid it all. There
is nothing left to do That's why Jesus said, "It is finished." When something
is done, it's done.
If you are not
sure of your own salvation, you can be.
You must be.
That's the good news. Tell God what you already know to be true, that you
are a sinner, and ask for Jesus to be your personal Savior and Lord. He
is waiting. Any questions relative to our work, salvation or other Bible
questions are welcome. Please feel free to email me at any time.
