A Quality Christian Education
Grace Christian School of Mankato
Mission Statement and Philosophy of Education:
MISSION STATEMENT
Grace Christian School exists as a ministry of Grace Baptist Church to assist
parents in fulfilling their God-given responsibility to train their children
in the precepts of Scripture.
PHILOSOPHY
Education is, by its very nature, a religious process; it is impossible
to teach facts without interpretation in a religious and philosophical framework.
Christian education must deal with the spiritual, academic, social and physical
dimensions of the student.
Man is recognized as a spiritual being which will live for eternity either
enjoying the presence of God or suffering His holy judgment. We believe
that the Scriptures give the true view of God and man, and are the basis for
training man to live for eternity.
Truth in the academic realm may be known through the study of the Scriptures,
which is recognized as God's revelation to the human race, setting forth truths
which man might not otherwise discover. Truth may also be known by
a proper rational process based upon presuppositions which are consistent
with the revelation of Scripture. The natural world, which has been
created by God, may also be studied to learn academic truth. However,
since man's rational process and observational powers have been marred by
the fall into sin, truth arrived at through these means must be checked against
the revelation of Scripture for validity.
Man was created a social being (Genesis 2:18). The Scriptures
contain the principles given by God for man's interaction with his fellow
man. Therefore, the basis for education in social interaction must be
those principles.
Every person created by God has a body, which He desires to possess as His
temple (I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19). Thus, the proper care and "maintenance"
of the temple is essential to a program of Christian education.
God has given to parents the responsibility and the right to educate their
own children:
"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall
be in thine heart:
thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and
shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest
by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." Deuteronomy
6:6,7
"And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath:
but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians
6:4
Since parents are given the primary responsibility as the educators in the
moral and spiritual realm, Grace Christian School seeks only to reinforce
the teaching of godly parents in these areas. It is not possible to
reinforce values that have never been taught. Therefore, parents who
do not agree with the moral values and spiritual teaching of Grace Christian
School or who are not consciously trying to teach them at home are asked NOT
to enroll their children at Grace Christian School.
